Healthcare In The 21st Century And Beyond

July 18th, 2011 by www.medicalapproaches.com

Health care in the 21st century has changed the way that patients are treated by medical professionals. New advances in medical science have led doctors to be able to treat their patients in a better manner. For example, some tumors are now being removed via laser instead of scalpel to reduce the likelihood of cancer cells returning.
Some doctors now recommend alternative treatments such as acupuncture, detoxification and herbal remedies in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiation to treat cancer. Alternative treatments are being explored more in the 21st century because harsh treatments such as chemotherapy can really harm the body and make it harder to treat cancer if the cancer cells return. Chemicals can hurt the body especially when going through chemotherapy where the entire immune system is basically destroyed.

The next form of medical technology that has been debated by many politicians is electronic medical records. In the future, most people will have their medical records available electronically which will help to speed up the treatment process. Politicians have said that doing this would cause privacy concerns because with computers, data breeches could occur. However, when a patient enters a hospital and does not have their medical records on hand, this can cause problems for the medical professionals that have to treat the patient.

By utilizing medical records that are available online, a doctor can enter a person’s name, address, and date of birth and be able to pull up all of their medical information. The doctor can find out about medications that are being taken, medical conditions that the person has, and any other relevant information. It can help to reduce allergic reactions to medications, dangerous drug interactions, and unnecessary medical tests and treatments from being administered. In the future, patient care will be much more precise and efficient by using technology and new forms of science to make patients healthier.
