Insulin is a hormone in your body that is released the pancreas. It is usually released as a response to your body having higher sugar levels in its system. People with a diabetes pancreas’ do not excrete enough insulin so they cannot process sugar as well as others. This is why they often have to take shots of insulin into their system when their sugar levels get too high. If you have too much sugar in your system the sugar will get stored as fat by the insulin. So insulin spikes can be bad if you are trying to lose weight.
You can avoid spikes in insulin production by avoiding foods with a lot of processed sugars. Even fruits can raise your insulin levels because of the natural sugars that they have in them. Fat is even better for you than various sugars because it gets released into the system more slowly than sugar and won’t cause your body to release insulin as a reaction. It also makes you feel more full than sugars. The best way to avoid insulin spikes is to eat vegetables and grains to keep your body fueled by not overstocked with sugars.
